In Which I Make a Hard Decision

A couple of days ago, the DH asked what I'd like for my birthday. Easy: a new pair of paddock boots. Mine are old and worn out, and though there's a little life left in them yet, I've been coveting a pair of Ariats for a while.

However...

I just blew my paddock boot budget on research material. Oops. It was a hard decision, but our local library just doesn't have the material I need for the type of research I want to do (I openly admit I'm a research snob), and after working through some of the issues I'm having with SUN, I knew that I had to have a deeper understanding of some of the currents I'm working with to really do justice to the story.

So, winging their way towards me are some lovely new expensive texts.

And no paddock boots. *sniff*

Oh, and also? I think I just figured out the element in SUN that was missing - except, in doing so, I might have just placed an impossible task in front of myself. Well, if one isn't pushing boundaries, what is one doing? I dunno. But I have to admit I'm feeling daunted - guess it's time to see what my writerly self is made of.

I bought some (nearly brand new) Ariat paddock boots on e-bay....for under 50 dollars. Just a thought....

Well, yes, they do, but that means getting my research material for only two weeks and since I read non-fiction at a snail's pace...

However, I should do that. And make myself read faster! :)

oh nobody reads the whole book for research. that's just silly. skip to the good stuff and ignore the rest!

Hee hee, yes, I know, but sometimes (a lot of the time!) I don't know what I'm looking for until I find it. So, it's like an adventure or something!

Your writerly self is made of awesome, so push those boundaries, baby! (Did I just call you "baby"? Sorry. It wasn't me, really, just that voice in my head....)

Ahahaha!

And thanks - we'll see what happens...:)

I feel your pain on the library though, I tend to go to the UCLA library or the Pasadena City College library, which are further away, than to my local little one. I'd go to the Cal Tech or Fuller Seminary libraries if they let me take the books!

At least you have choices! The nearest (decent) academic library is a four hour drive from me. However, as [info]lookingland pointed out, I could make use of interlibrary loans....

Ouch. I feel your pain. I have to pay for ILL and the resources are limited... I'm a research addict enthusiast, too, so I tend to buy whatever I think I can use even though it pinches my budget.

Happy Birthday, though!!

Yes, research geeks unite!

And thank you for the birthday wishes - it's next week, and I have a feeling my family might forget about it (it falls on Mother's Day, and whenever that happens, well...we'll see! :) )
